Millar is not going to get carried away

THE new league season can't come soon enough for Stuart Millar and his Clyde players.

After recording a morale boosting 2-1 League Cup win over Cowdenbeath at the weekend, the Broadwood boss knows his players are ready.

He said: "I get the feeling they are desperate to get started now. Saturday has given them a confidence boost and when that happens you just want the next game to come."

Despite being in the same tier last season, the Bully Wee and the Blue Brazil are now separated by two divisions.

However two Marc McCusker strikes resulted in an impressive win for the manager's first competitive home game in charge.

"It was great for everybody involved," explained Millar. "It was a follow on from the work we've put in over the last few weeks. I don't think we had a bad performance from anyone, they all worked hard and competed."

Clyde face SPL champions Rangers in a friendly tonight, before the league season kicks-off on Saturday when Stranraer visit Broadwood.

"The Rangers game is terrific for the club," said Millar. "It's obviously not ideal that it's three days before the first game but the SPL champions don't come calling too often.

"Everyone will want to play but we have to look at the importance of Saturday's game. I would reckon Stranraer are one of the favourites this season, they were good last year and they have much the same team

"It's difficult to know what this season is going to bring but I think on any given day we're capable of beating anybody in the third division, but we're not going to get carried away."
