Brothers Ian, David and Alistair Robertson and skip Archie Pollock captured the rinks crown at last week’s Scottish National Championships at Northfield in Ayr.

Watched by a large crowd of home clubs supporters, the quartet beat North British from Glasgow, Law, Riccarton from Kilmarnock and Auchinleck to make it through to the final against Eddlewood BC from Hamilton.

And in a nerve-wracking finale they came from behind to square the match at the last of the regular 17 ends before taking the trophy at the extra end.

Simply to get to Northfield the quartet had to battle through five games to secure the honour of representing their district at the annual showcase.

And at the finals themselves they had to play one match on the Thursday, another on the Friday, the quarter-final on the Saturday and both the semi-final and final on the Sunday.

Delighted club president Jimmy Young admitted: “It’s a tremendous achievement for them to became the first bowlers ever from the club to lift a national gents’ title and to do it in the year the club is celebrating its 125th birthday just makes it extra special.

“It’s been a really great year for the club and to round it off like this just makes it extra special.

“It was certainly a great night of celebration in the club after their success.

“This is a great achievement by the Milngavie players, considering there were over 600 entries from throughout Scotland.”
