Minerva made the relatively short journey to Kilsyth Rangers’ ground on Friday (May 25) for the game against arguably the top side in Scottish amateur football.

A good crowd on a warm evening gave their backing but on the night Minerva failed to turn in a winning performance.

The Drum got themselves in front on the 29th minute when slack defending was clinically punished.

The Drum went two up in the 35th minute and yet again the quality of their finishing was excellent, although questions should be asked regarding the Minerva defending. There was to be no more scoring in the first half.

A few choice words at the interval coupled with some early changes saw Minerva come more into the game and the Drum were being kept on the back foot for long periods while still providing a threat on the break.

Minerva got a deserved goal back on the 82nd minute when McKenna turned home a good C Duff cross.

With two minutes remaining McKenna had the ball in the net again however the nearside assistant referee flagged for handball, a decision the diminutive forward strongly disagreed with.

The Drum were able to hold on until the final whistle and in the end Minerva just ran out of time.
