Mixed fortunes for local sides

A free weekend for Kilsyth gave the Duncansfield outfit a chance to test themselves against strong opposition.

Assistant manager Martin Mooney explained: “It was a confidence boosting win. Obviously we played Irvine Meadow recently in the Scottish Cup and Pollock are right up there with them at the top.

“We seemed to lift ourselves - I think we have players at this club who are playing a level below themselves and they proved that on Saturday.

“One thing we’ve talked about is getting out of this division because we can play good football, and at times it’s about scraping and battling the lower down the leagues you go.”

Cumbernauld United boss Danny Drew (pictured left) meanwhile was disappointed to see his side defeated.

He said: “We missed a couple of chances and I would definitely say it was quite even, we had the majority of possession so we were quite unfortunate.

“Throughout the game I would say they had about three chances and took two of them. We must’ve had about five opportunities and I told the boys in these games that’s about as many as we can hope for, we have to covert two or three of them.”

Rangers are at home to Thorniewood United this weekend while United are away to Girvan.

Mooney added: “If we keep picking points up and keep winning at home then we will stay in touch at the top and we’ve obviously still got these teams to play.”

Drew continued: “Girvan are a good team and they have a lovely pitch there which should benefit us. We’ve got a few players coming back from injury so hopefully will have a strong squad to choose from.”
