More success for Lanark swimmers

LANARK Swimming Club stalwart Mary Kelly has praised the fantastic medal-winning exploits of Lanark members at recent competitions.

Mary – whose daughter Karen coaches the youngsters – looked on in admiration as 12-year-old Lanark Grammar pupil Euan McComish won the 100m butterfly, 1500m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 200m IM at the West District Championships in Dumfries earlier this month.

Mary said: “Euan did very well. He has won West District titles before but that was his best effort ever.

“He deserves success because he trains every day and does a total of 11 hours every week, after school and on Sunday mornings.

“Euan is a dedicated swimmer who is good at every stroke. I would say his success in the pool can be rated 50/50 between natural talent and the quality of coaching he receives from Karen.”

Other beneficiaries of the Kelly coaching factor include Katie Donald and Robyn Patrick, who won the respective 10/11 and 13 years 200m breaststroke events in Dumfries.
