Mouse Valley director hopes golf course can be saved

Kames Country Club boss James Forrest – who incurred members’ wrath by mysteriously closing the par-71 championship course, pro shop, starters’ hut and dressing room back in February – said that running the complex was no longer financially viable.

He said: “Ideally, it would be better if this place went into administration and was run by someone else.

“It has not made much money for the past three or four years because of the recession.

“There has been a decline in membership at the golf course. We need to pay the 20 per cent VAT for every one of our members. Other clubs don’t have that.

“Paying rates was also another big issue which meant it wasn’t viable to continue running this place.”
