Mum's outrage at South Lanarkshire Council soccer academy

AN enraged parent has accused South Lanarkshire Council of effectively trying to wipe out the Clydesdale United FC kids football coaching sessions in Lesmahagow.

Furious Fiona Morrison, whose six-year-old son Ross is one of around 30 youngsters taught outdoors by experienced coaches Chris Law and Adam Moyes, made the accusation after the council started its own Thursday night indoor sessions.

"This is a disgusting thing for the council to do," Fiona said.

However, a council spokesman said: "We run very popular soccer skills academies throughout South Lanarkshire and it has been our intention for some time to extend these into the Lesmahagow area.

"The service the academies offer is different and complementary to the training sessions of established football clubs and do not compete with them."
