My magical Mo-ments in Croy

AN AMERICAN surgeon who looks after the fastest men on the planet has made a brief visit to Croy to see what all the fuss is about – after a high profile pal told him about the natural beauty of the area.

Bob Cook from Portland in Oregon was based in London for the duration of the Olympics where he had been part of a Nike-sponsored team of experts dealing with legends like Mo Farah and his American training partner Galen Rupp.

But he still found time to jet up to Scotland to pay a call to the family of a former athlete from Croy who lives just ten minutes away from him in Portland.

He is former Celtic and Aston Villa player Pat McMahon who emigrated to the United States in 1976 to play for the Portland Timbers – where he first encountered sports medicine specialist Bob, who also worked with the National Basketball Association for 20 years.
