New Lanark provides spectacular finish for Clyde Stride

BONNINGTON Linn at New Lanark provided a spectacular backdrop for runners finishing the inaugural 40-mile Clyde Stride Ultra Marathon.

Competitors were relieved to enter the World Heritage Site, as it marked the final part of a gruelling journey which 92 runners had started at Partick Railway Station in Glasgow before progressing along the River Clyde and through Strathclyde Regional Park.

"The race went excellently and far exceeded my expectations," said Clyde Stride organiser Lee Maclean (37).

"I was very impressed that winner Grant Jeans managed to complete the course in five hours eight minutes, because he had run five miles further than everyone else after getting lost!"
