New youth football team in Biggar

DEVOTED Biggar youth football coach Ronnie Scott was so upset at seeing talented young players quit the town for rival clubs that he decided to form Biggar’s first boys football club.

Biggar United Juniors, featuring boys aged five to 10, is off and running and gives the children of Biggar a football club on their own doorstep.

Head coach Ronnie (43) said: “Last year a lot of coaches from rival towns and villages were coming to our Friday night training at Biggar Sports Centre to scout on our kids and hoping to sign them. Several of our best players ended up moving.

Parents were asking me why we didn’t have a kids team in Biggar and it just clicked to me that I should start one up.

“It’s been a great success, with local youngsters joining children coming from Abington, Crawford, Walston and Dolphinton. For the first time, this kids are getting the chance to train and play with their pals.”
