No sponsors for Lanark linebacker Lee Collins

AN American football star is getting set to take part in July's European Championships in Germany...despite being refused funding by SportScotland.

Lanark linebacker Lee Collins (23) will be part of the Great Britain Lions team, which is one of the favourites for the tournament.

However, to take part will mean forking out almost 1,000.

Dad Stevie, who was a national development coach with the now defunct Scottish Claymores as well as a former coach with Clyde Valley Hawks, said: "If you are selected for an international team you are

usually given funding.

"I don't understand why some sports are recognised yet Lee is not receiving funding."

Last year Lee, who plays for East Kilbride Pirates, was named the team's defensive MVP (most valuable player) despite being out for half the season with a broken foot.

Currently he is being tracked by several teams in Germany but is unsure of his future having still to complete his apprenticeship as an electrical engineer.

Any local businesses who would like to sponsor Lee should contact Stevie on 07818 415723.
