* The closing of Law Hospital was foreshadowed under a proposed plan to axe existing hospital administration in Lanarkshire. The Western Regional Hospital Board sought approval from the Secretary of State to disband Lanarkshire's three hospital boards of management and set up two new ones.

* Mr AG Grouch of Underbank left to join the administrative staff of the new University of Exeter as its superintendent of grounds.

* Miss Inglis of Kirkfieldbank, a young and attractive shop assistant in Day's milliner's store, was selected as Lanark's best shop assistant in a competition arranged by Lanark Rotary Club.

* A Lanark man was fined 25 at Lanark Sheriff Court for resetting 7680 cigarettes worth 78.

* Crawforddyke (Carluke) added the County Cup to the Hunter Cup and league shield when they whipped Dykehead 7-1 at Douglas Park in Hamilton with goals by Cossar (2), Shearer (4) and Goldthorp.

* Forth Wanderers and Shotts Bon Accord were to contest the Challenge Cup Final at Loch Park, Carluke.

* Rado Photo Company, who had been all the rage the previous summer, reopened their Wellgate studio in Lanark.

* "You are just a fair nuisance and it would be a quieter town without you," said Baillie McLellan to a female outworker appearing at Lanark Burgh Court. The woman, who had pleaded guilty to being found drunk and incapable in Lanark High Street on Saturday, was fined 10s.

* John R Russell received a purse of sovereigns from his colleagues in Carluke Parish Church choir, as he left for British Columbia.

* Over 80 in prizemoney was on offer at Carluke Cattle Show, to be held at Whitehill Park that Saturday June 11.

* A labourer was fined 10s at Lanark Sheriff Court for committing a breach of the peace in Stewart Street, Carluke.

* Lanark Albion dropped two more points in the South Lanarkshire League, being defeated 2-0 at Draffin.

* Lanark United players McMorran, R Smith, A Halley, McKnight and Hector came second at the Peebles Sports five-a-side football tournament. They lost 1-0 to Broxburn in their final game.
