* A new minister was unanimously elected by Carluke St Andrew's Church vacancy committee. The Rev Alan Gardiner, from Ferryden Parish in Montrose, was chosen.
* A Carluke commission agent was fined 15 at Lanark J.P Court for conducting betting premises at a house in Law.

Hide Ad* A 14-year-old girl was recovering in hospital after a cycle mishap. The girl was carrying abooks under one arm when she lost her balance and toppled head first onto the road.
* First Law Boys Brigade made history when it was presented with Queen and Company Colours. The colours were dedicated by the Rev R.C White.
* A group of miners from Russia were set to meet local miners at the Forth Miners Welfare Institute. The Russians were guests of the National Union of Mineworkers.
* Lanark Rotary Club arranged a competition to find the Royal Burgh's best shop assistant. The winner was to be chosen by the public.

Hide Ad* The Gazette carried a feature on John Cumming who helped Hearts win the Scottish League Championship. It said that Cumming had done more than anyone to secure the title.
100 YEARS AGO
* A labourer was charged with breaking into Cartland Factory and turning the steam power full on. A fine of 10s was imposed with the alternative being 10 days imprisonment.
* The 1910 Lanimer Committee was appointed with Provost Macleary presiding over the meeting. It was decided to re-elect last year's committee with St Mary's Primary being asked to appoint a Lanimer Queen.
* At a special sitting of Lanark Sheriff Court a man was charged with wife desertion. After hearing all the evidence the sheriff fined him 15s.

Hide Ad* A Glespin poacher was fined 3 with the alternative of 14 days imprisonment after he was found in possession of seven purse nets used for unlawfully killing game.
* A grocer escaped with only bruising to his leg following an accident at Wilsontown Station. He lost his footing while
stepping off a train and it moved and caused him to fall to the ground.
* Law Bowling Green was set to be opened. The president was named as John Stirling.
* Law Volunteers faced Larkhall Thistle in the Lanarkshire League. Law lost 2-1 away from home.
