On the road to Hampden

"SATURDAY was definitely two points dropped," said Clyde boss Stuart Millar after watching his side throw away a two goal lead against Stranraer.

But the Bully Wee can still take several positives from a game which featured plenty of free-flowing attacking football.

Millar explained: "When you're two up after 25 minutes you shouldn't draw the game. We were playing some good attacking football right from the start and our pace and passing was fantastic.

"We gifted them a chance to get back into it and really shot ourselves in the foot. It was a bit of a reality check. We've been getting great praise for how we've done pre-season and Saturday was a wee reminder to the players that they have to play at 100 per cent for 90 minutes. I'm naturally disappointed not to have won the game."

The Broadwood boss plans to further bolster his squad in the coming weeks to ensure he has the depth he needs to challenge for promotion.

He said: "We've got good players here. We need to bring one or two more in but as it stands we've got a good team. They've put a lot into the last week or so with the pre-season games and done really well but we need to make sure Saturday's result doesn't disappoint us too much."

Up next for Clyde is a trip to Hampden to face Scotland's oldest football club Queen's Park on Saturday.

Millar thinks the prestige of playing at the national stadium will excite his players.

He added: "It's a great chance for the players to see what it's like to play at Hampden, not everyone gets that opportunity. Without a doubt it'll give the players a lift. I think Queen's Park are aware of the effect playing at Hampden has on visiting teams so we have to be prepared.

"I'll be watching them in the Alba Challenge Cup during the week with Neil Watt so we're well briefed. We're working all hours and we don't want to leave any stone unturned to improve the club."
