One week, two men, three peaks, four feet!

A Lanark man and his running partner will attempt to break a world record next year in order to raise money for charity.

Clark Burrell and Lewis Cleland, both 23, will try to break the current World Record of the UK Three peaks by foot, which involves running a whopping 436 miles in one week and takes in peaks at Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.

The current record for that distance is 13 days and 23 hours.

The pair will begin the challenge next April and are raising funds for Young Minds – a UK-wide Mental Health charity.

Clark, who is a physical education teacher at Crosshouse Primary School in East Kilbride, said: “As physical educators [partner Lewis is currently studying physical education teaching at the University of the West of Scotland in Ayr] we have a huge influence on the lives on many young people in our care and we hope to inspire them to become more physically active and also to take on challenging tasks within their lives.”

They are currently in week six of their training, and recently ran up Tinto Hill as part of a 32 mile run.

Earlier this year they completed the West Highland Way, in “just over 24 hours”. Finishing the 96 mile route from Milngavie to Fort William gave them the belief that they could break the record.

They aim to raise £10,000 and donations can be made at their Just Giving page, or texting LCCB54 with an amount between £1-£10 to 70070.
