Anna (17) has joined Eilidh Barclay (18), from Bothwell, and Hamilton 21-year-old Megan Glancy in promoting the Walk and Talk initiative as part of sportscotland’s We’re here’ campaign.

Anna said: “During these times there is so much uncertainty and unfortunately isolation from close family and friends. Finding ways to maintain social connections helps to create a sense of togetherness despite being physically apart.

“Walk and Talk is a great way to stay both physically active whilst making these connections and looking out for one another. I found it very comforting to hear a familiar voice, have a catch up and share some good stories and laughs together whilst we are both walking and benefiting from physical activity.”

Anna and the other two girls have been members of sportscotland’s Young People’s Sport Panel (YPSP) since June 2018.

The panel is currently in its fourth two-year cycle and the trio have already made great strides in ensuring the voice of young people is part of the sporting conversation across Scotland.

With sport in Scotland at a standstill, the sporting sector has been working hard to ensure people can stay mentally and physically active from their own homes, with the YPSP at the forefront of that effort.

Walk and Talk is encouraging people set a time for a walk and talk phone call with a friend, family member, colleague or teammate. Each person takes a photo while on their walk and shares it on social media using the hashtag #WeAreHere and tags @sportscotland and @SAMHtweets. The campaign was launched during Mental Health Awareness Week but will continue while restrictions are in place in Scotland.
