Team Scotland bowls line-up confirmed for Glasgow 2026

Commonwealth Games icons Alex 'Tattie' Marshall and Paul Foster will headline the Scottish bowls line-up in Glasgow this summer.

Seven-time medallist Marshall, a home hero the last time the city hosted the event in 2014, winning two golds, will team up with Foster, who has six medals to his name, in the Men’s Pairs.

The full line-up of bowls and para bowls athletes for Team Scotland was announced on Tuesday with 59-year-old Marshall, from Edinburgh, selected for his eighth Games.

“It is always such an honour and privilege to be selected to represent Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games," he said. "To have another opportunity to be a part of a home Games is also not lost on me, and I know that Paul and I will give it our very best to try and win a medal for the team.”

Marshall will be joined in Team Scotland colours for the first time by his niece, Beth Riva. The 23-year-old won the World Championship mixed pairs last year with Jason Banks, who will also make his Team Scotland debut in Glasgow in the Men’s Singles.

Riva partners the experienced Caroline Brown in the Women’s Pairs. Brown is heading to her fifth Games and will be looking to add to her silver medal she clinched at the Gold Coast in 2018.

In the para team, Pauline Wilson, Garry Brown, Robert Barr and his director Sarah Jane Ewing are all aiming for repeat golds after topping the podium at Birmingham 2022. The youngest member of the squad, 22-year-old Sophie McGrouther, makes her Games debut in the Women's Singles.

For the first time in Games history bowls will be played indoors at the SEC Centre with the competition running from July 24 to August 2.

Elinor Middlemiss, Team Scotland Chef de Mission, said: “Our Bowls and Para Bowls athletes have historically been very successful at the Games, and I am sure it will be no different with this exciting new format and in an indoor setting.

“This team has such a mix of youth and experience, it is wonderful to see the sport attracting new players of all ages and I am sure they will undoubtedly inspire those who come along to watch and cheer them on at the SEC Centre.”
