Palacerigg plans huge reunion

PALACERIGG Golf Club is looking to bring together past members for the first time since the club was formed in 1975.

On the eve of the new golf season, on March 31, 2012, the club is holding a reunion to bring together as many past members as possible.

Club secretary Pat O’Hara explains: “As well as an occasion to help raise funds for Palacerigg, after a typically difficult winter, we are holding a Gala Dinner Dance to bring together current members as well as inviting past members. Thousands of members have come through the club over the past 35 years but this is the first time we have invited everyone back together. This is an appeal to past members, past captains, founder members, club champions etc to support us on March 31.”

The clubhouse can only hold around 70, therefore The Castlecary Hotel has been booked for the occasion, at the same time helping to support local business. The last time an event was held outside the club was in 2000 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the golf club. There will be a three-course dinner followed by tea, coffee an auction and raffle.

The club has invited two of its best exports – Graeme Rankin and Stephen Gray – as guests on the night. Graeme was part of two winning Walker Cup teams, as well as Scottish Amateur champion and member of the 2001 European tour. Stephen has won the Tartan Tour order of merit for the past two years and qualified for four starts on last season’s European tour.

Club captain Frank Anderson explained: “This is a good opportunity to give us a great start to the new golf season. The golf course is constatly improving thanks to the investment from North Lanarkshire Leisure and we are all looking forward to a successful season ahead.”

The entertainment is being provided by Brian James Leys who has just completed the Glasgow Hilton Christmas parties. Brian was also in pantomime at the SECC a couple of seasons ago.
