Pat lifts Mike Leddy Trophy

Last week in the Red Triangle Snooker Club saw the start of the Mike Leddy Trophy. The format for this is best of five slightly longer matches than the usual best of three. A total of 19 entrants would battle it out over the two weeks.

First round: Garry Coats 3, Colin Blair 0; Ian McKay 3, John Coyle 0; Colin Allen 3, Kevin Glen 1.

Second round: Garry Coats 3, Andy Jackson 2; John Malcolm 3, Willie Meechan 0; Davie Hutchison 3, Martin Cook 0; Pat Killen 3, Jordan Gallagher 2; Ian McKay 3, Bill Munro 0; Douglas Fraser 3, Gordon Smith 1; Scott Davidson 3, Colin Allen 1; Eden Sharav 3, John Dempster 2.

Quarter final: John Malcolm 3, Garry Coats 2; Pat Killen 3, Davie Hutchison 1; Ian McKay 3, Dougie Fraser 1; Scott Davidson 3, Eden Sharav 2.

Semi final: Pat Killen 3, John Malcolm 1; Ian McKay 3, Scott Davidson 1.

The final of this year’s Mike Leddy Memorial Trophy would be contested between Pat Kilen and Ian McKay. Pat was quick out the traps taking an early 2-0 lead. Ian rallied in the third to peg back the Westerwood potter 2-1.

In the fourth frame any nerves Ian had were long gone as he soon got his arm going and levelled the match 2-2.

In the decider Pat had to use all his experience to keep Ian at bay and after some good safety play Pat had a nice yellow to blue to get his hands on the title.

Congratulations to Pat and unlucky to Ian. Next weekend sees the start of the billiards, names for 6.15pm; 6.30pm start. All welcome.
