Perfect 10 for crack-shots at Campsie Black Watch

A high-scoring league game at Nether Pollok on Saturday saw Watch produce finishing of tremendous quality. It is very unusual in this league for so many goals to be scored in one game. Glasgow Amateurs had started the season very well, but were shocked and unable to contain the Campsie attacks.

Watch opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Prentice’s cross-field pass from the left saw O’Hear control the ball, pass full-back Shannon and play the ball in for Maguire, who slammed the ball past keeper Kelly.

As in previous games Blackies saw their lead quickly disappear when the Amateurs equalised in the 18th minute. A free-kick on the left touchline was played across goal and striker McNichol netted.

Watch were creating chances and it was no surprise when Steven Aitken finished brilliantly after Pettigrew and Prentice set up the striker in the 27th minute. One minute later Aitken was on the spot to finish off a move from McCluskey and O’Hear.

Amateurs won a penalty in the 35th minute and Bossley scored from the spot.

Aitken completed his hat-trick in the 42nd minute after Nicky Prentice was upended in the box. The Blackies striker made no mistake from the spot. Watch’s play in the opening 45 minutes was impressive, the only disappointment was the loss of goals.

It was 5-2 in the 47th minute after fine play from Maguire, Blackwood and O’Hear. The ball was played across goal for Prentice to come in at the back post to net. Prentice scored again with a brilliant strike from 15 yards after Maguire and Blackwood made the opening – making it 6-2 in the 51st minute. Prentice completed his hat-trick in the 72nd minute, scoring from the spot after O’Hear was pulled down.

Before the end Blackies finished a fine performance with further goals from Maguire, Prentice and Aitken. Glasgow Amateurs, having started their season well, were shocked with how they were outplayed on a day when Watch thought they were in for a difficult 90 minutes. Blackies have only four players left from last season so it was very pleasing – particularly for two players who were outstanding in the success of the club – scoring eight goals between them on Saturday.

* Watch suffered a disappointing defeat away to Steins Thistle at Allandale Park on Thursday night in a league game. The opening 45 minutes saw both sides battling for supremacy, it was 1-1 at the interval. The second half saw Watch players look the likelier to win comfortably, but chances galore were passed up and Steins scored the winner. A free-kick out on the left touchline found its way into the net on the 80th minute. All credit to Steins.

Watch play Clydebank in a league game tonight (Wednesday) at Station Road, 6.30pm kick-off. On Saturday, again at Station Road, Bonnyton are visitors in a league game with a 2pm kick-off. Tote numbers for Saturday were 48 and 1. One winner receives £100.
