Phoenix rise and deprive Warriors of Scottish Cup

West of Scotland Warriors 41 Lothian Phoenix 50

West of Scotland Warriors gave the Lagoon in Paisley a great spectacle of elite wheelchair basketball but, despite putting up a great fight, had to settle for runners-up at the Scottlsh cup final recently, writes Paddy Moran.

The Warriors were up against Lothian Phoenix, who took the tip off, but it was the Warriors who struck first, a fine long range two point shot from captain and Man of the Match Gary Davidson.

By the final minute of the match, Warriors found themselves seven points behind and, despite a great effort to mount a comeback, they just couldn’t overcome their Lothian Phoenix rivals.

Warriors ‘Pistol’ Pete Moore said: “Phoenix played a great game for the win.

“I was proud of the fight our team put up considering we did not have two of our starting five.

“And our captain Gary Davidson got the MVP.”

Looking forward, Moore said: “It is now time for us to turn our attention back to league duty we have two very important matches coming up away from home on the weekend of February 21st and 22nd against Tee Valley Titans and Carlisle Panthers.

“These games could make or break our promotion push.

Our next home match is on March 14 against the Tee Valley Titans and we hope to have a big support for this game.”
