BIGGAR Rugby Club coach Ian Barr reckons the club’s current crop of Colts is the best under-18 sports squad anywhere in Clydesdale.

Ian and coaching colleagues John Warnock, Gavin Hill and David Murray led the team to this season’s Edinburgh Under-18 Championship title.

Ian said: “I thought this season was going to be one of transition because we’d just lost 11 players to the senior side.

“But somehow we managed to exceed expectations.

“Our squad was tiny compared to rival teams, but our high skill level, work-rate and attitude helped us to score many tries.”

The Edinburgh league triumph was Biggar’s seventh in the past 30 years of the competition, but the first time they’ve won it since 2001.

The Hartreemill boys won 11 games out of 11 this season, including victories against leading lights like Musselburgh, Dunbar and Haddington.
