Price hike could signal end for Carluke Nanbudo Club

A MASSIVE South Lanarkshire Council rates hike of almost 300 PER CENT looks likely to signal the end for a Clydesdale martial arts club founded way back in 1983.

Carluke Nanbudo Club instructor Stuart Lammie (29) feels it is impossible to keep his weekly sessions going at the 14 million Carluke Lifestyles Centre in Carnwath Road, after the lease fees shot up from 17 a night to 50 a night.

"I'm absolutely raging at this," Stuart said.

"It's not just because the council has put the prices up. It's because I've never had anything in writing to say they were going to do this.

"Three hours before I was due to teach on Tuesday, the council called to say they were not letting the hall out to me because I had not told them what I was doing.

"I thought: 'what are you talking about?'

"I'm gutted at the whole situation, because this club is supposed to be about the community.

"Pricing a club out the game is certainly not about the community."
