Glasgow Riderz host Youth Omnium 2 as competition for a place at the British Youth Track Omnium Championships heats up.

Almost 100 of Scotland’s top track cyclists gathered on Sunday at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for the second instalment of this season’s ScottishPower Youth Series Track Omnium.

The sparkling success story of Stirling Bike Club continued to unfold as the girls yet again earned the gold and silver in the Youth A girls, showing they will be a force to be reckoned with in Wolverhampton this July.

The girls once more showed there is no weak link in the chain. At the last event, it was Amber King first, with Rhona Callander and Jenny Holl in hot pursuit, but this time Jenny Holl finished first, followed by Rhona Callander second and teammate Amer King finished third.

The Youth B Girls competition saw hosts Glasgow Riders own Anna Shackley take the win followed by club mate Abbey Stewart in second and Edinburgh Road Clubs Eva Barnett in third.

In the Youth A boys, Hosts Glasgow Riderz’ Lewis Stewart took the win with Stephen Dent from Nevis Cycles racing team in Fort William second place finish managed to defeat the challenge from hardie-bikes.com’s Joseph Nally in third.

Dundee Discovery’s Alfred George again displayed what an impressive cyclist he is, with a win in the Youth B boys. The Dundee High School pupil fought off the challenge of Glasgow Riderz’ Jack Cruden and Matti Dobbins of Johnston Wheelers .

The boys and girls competed with each other in the Youth C race, with Imani Pereira-James earning a first-place finish for the hosts.

Eilidh Shaw from Royal Albert Cycling Club came second, with Morvin Yeoman from East Kilbride Road Club third.

Bob MacFarlane, ScottishPower National Youth Racing Series events officer for Scottish Cycling, said: “It was a tremendous weekend in the ScottishPower youth series, with two mini downhill events and the second track omnium.

The ScottishPower youth series is a tremendous showcase of our most talented, dedicated and focussed cyclists, as they truly are competing against the best in the country on an almost weekly basis, whatever their discipline.

“It is valuable racing experience and will stand our top young riders in good stead when they compete in British and international competitions.”
