It was Rabs who were making the early running. Flood’s low cross from the left was taken confidently by Wilson in the Burgh goal.

In a Burgh break up field, Fitzpatrick crossed for Hardie, but the striker failed to hit the target.

As Rabs surged forward Chris Duff headed a McKenzie cross past the post, but the same player was on the score-sheet two minutes later.

Again McKenzie was the provider, sending over another perfect cross which the Burgh defence failed to deal with giving Duff the chance to head home.

Less than a minute later the second division outfit shocked Rob Roy by equalising.

The ball was sent up field to the dangerous Jason Hardie, who took a few steps before sending a powerful low shot past Brown.

Rabs replied with Barr heading a Duff cross wide before Burgh keeper Wilson made fine saves from Flood and Duff.

Minutes before the half-time whistle Willie Sawyers had the ball in the Johnstone Burgh net, but the referee ruled it out for pushing.

Rabs continued to push forward in the second half with Sawyers, Duff, Flood, Davison and Tiffney all coming close to scoring as Rabs created chance after chance but failed to make them count.

Rob Roy continued to press but found the Burgh defence resilient with keeper Wilson in top form.

Sawyers had a great chance to put the hosts in front in the 75th minute, but could only fire the ball against the Wilson’s legs.

As the minutes ticked away Rabs were passing up chances by playing over-elaborate football when the direct approach was required and it was no surprise when the visitors held out for a penalty decider.
