Rob Roy 2

West of Scotland Premier Division

A POLLOK goal four minutes from time prevented Rob Roy from leaving Newlandsfield with maximum points in a game in which they dominated for long periods.

In the early stages it was Rabs who dominated, with Hunter forcing Lok’s keeper McNeil to push his volley wide of the post before Easton and Bradley sent efforts wide of the goal.

McGinty squandered a good chance to put Lok ahead but fired past the post.

Connolly came close to opening Rabs’ account in the 34th minute, but a last-gasp deflection sent the ball wide for a corner kick then at the other end Mill’s shot lacked power and failed to trouble the Rabs keeper.

Against the run of play the hosts broke the deadlock three minutes before the interval when Connolly’s defensive error allowed the ball to be switched to McQuilken who drilled the ball into the net from 10 yards.

Rabs began the second half in a positive manner with McNeil bringing out a fantastic diving save from a Hunter volley then in the 59th minute Easton equalised for Rabs when he collected the ball at the edge of the penalty box before flashing a low shot past McNeil.

A minute later Lok’s Assistant Manager Docherty was sent to the terracing for comments made to the enclosure side official.

Sensing victory, Rabs poured forward. Easton’s free-kick agonisingly floated across the goalmouth before Bradley could make contact then a 25 yard Lindsay kick was well held by McNeil.

Pollok’s only response was a McQuilken 30 yard free-kick blocked by Rabs defensive wall.

As the match entered its final quarter it was the visitors who looked the more likely to score, with McNeil making a wonder save when he pushed away Lindsay’s 28 yard free-kick from his top left hand corner of the net before Hunter then Diack sent decent efforts off target.

Rabs were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute when Meechan was downed in the box, Connolly made no mistake from the 12 yard mark to put his side ahead.

The visitors could have increased their lead but Diack was unlucky to see his net-bound shot deflected for a corner before Hunter headed over the bar from close range.

With four minutes remaining Rabs were handed a blow. Pollok were awarded a corner and it was swung into the Rabs goalmouth,

Robertson punched clear but only to the edge of the penalty box. It eventually fell to McQuilken who sent his shot low and hard into the net.
