Lanark’s Cartland Bridge Hotel – packed with around 180 local sports stars and guests including Provost Russell Clearie and Clydesdale MSP Karen Gillon – was the venue as ex-Lanark Grammar pupil Roger received his prize from event organiser Millar Stoddart.
Roger, nephew of legendary ex-Liverpool manager Bill Shankly, told compere Brian Donald that the biggest memory of his career was making his Crystal Palace debut against a Denis Law-inspired Manchester United in 1969.

“It was Palace’s first ever game in the first division,” Roger said. “And I managed to score in the first minute to put us one up.”
