Ross pockets Scottish title

UP-AND-COMING snooker player Ross Higgins from Cumbernauld is now the Scottish Snooker under 21 champion at just 17 years of age.

The championships were held at Craigpark Masters Snooker Club, Dennistoun on May 30 and Ross breezed through the final, beating Rhys Clark five frames to nil.

Carbrain resident Ross, whose highest breaks currently stand at 140 in practice and 120 in a tournament, recently completed his studies at Our Lady's High School.

He said: "I was kind of nervous at the start but I knew if I could get off to a good start in the final I would do well.

After the first couple of frames I just kept going."

This victory secures Ross a place representing Scotland at the 2010 IBSF U21 World Championships in Letterkenny from July 31-August 10 and victory in that tournament would earn the ambitious young cueman a place in the senior touring circuit, so he has a real chance at achieving his goal of becoming a professional snooker player.
