Rugby club cash boost

the coffers of Cumbernauld Rugby Club have been given a welcome boost thanks to a new initiative being run by Six Nations sponsor RBS.

The banking group is working in partnership with Scottish Rugby to raise awareness and enhance participation in the sport, and so it is the youngsters of the Condorrat-based club who will benefit.

A trip to watch the Glasgow Warriors play at Firhill, as well as new kids’ kits will be the result of the cash boost, much to the delight of the coaches and officials, not to mention the young stars of the future.

Drew Reid, director of Cumbernauld RFC, said: “On behalf of Cumbernauld Rugby Club I am delighted to accept this very generous donation from RBS.

“It is fantastic to see a great Scottish institution like RBS putting money into Scottish Rugby at grass roots level.”

Michelle Lawson, RBS branch manager at Cumbernauld, added: “Rugby is at the heart of many communities across Scotland and we recognise the difference the game can make.

“Club rugby is the life-blood of the game and our support programme will help clubs and the people who are so passionate about their success.

“The programme offers more than simply financial support.

“It is about helping clubs become sustainable for the long-term.

“I would like to wish Cumbernauld Rugby Club the best of luck this season, both on and off the pitch.”

As well as sponsoring the Six Nations, RBS is now the principal partner of Scottish Rugby, and the new domestic league sponsor.
