Allan Glen’s have thanked local rivals Lenzie for supporting their claim to be awarded the Tennent’s West Division 1 title.

Glen’s were second in the table, three points behind the leaders but with three games in hand, when the season was suspended.

But the league has now been declared null and void, denying Glen’s the chance of winning the title.

Null and void was voted through as the favoured option after it was one of five given to clubs by the SRU.

Another was to decide the title by points per games played, as has been used in football, and this was supported by Glen’s and Lenzie, who were in mid-table.

Glen’s president Paul Riley admitted: “We were pretty upset, but we were heartened that our friends at Lenzie were happy to vote along the same way we did, so there was a bit of East Dunbartonshire solidarity. They were willing to stand up for us.

“At the end of the day sporting integrity would suggest that having played 75 or 80 per cent of the league surely has to count for something.”
