Local rugby legend Al Kellock has been playing his part in helping to support youngsters unable to get to school during lockdown.

The former Allan Glen’s, Glasgow Warriors and Scotland captain teamed up with Royal Bank of Scotland’s MoneySense Mondays initiative to support parents home-schooling throughout lockdown.

Many families are turning to online learning resources to keep young minds occupied and informed during lockdown and to help, Royal Bank of Scotland is running one for parents.

MoneySense Mondays are weekly, interactive online lessons featuring a local teacher and a Royal Bank of Scotland Community Banker.

And last week young rugby fans and their parents received a special surprise as the former Scotland stalwart, an ex-pupil of Bishopbriggs Academy, joined MoneySense Mondays with his daughter Kate for the live lesson hosted on Royal Bank’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

The weekly sessions providing fun and interactive lessons to teach young people about money and finances by using real life scenarios such as currency exchange and shopping.

Al said: “The last few months have been a lesson for every parent. We’ve all learned how hard our teachers work to keep our children motivated and interested while at school. My daughter Kate is aged 11 and we’ve been working hard through lockdown to keep home-schooling interesting and fun for our kids.

“Royal Bank of Scotland’s MoneySense Mondays are a great solution as they provide tangible skills for managing money that Kate can use as she gets older.

“I’ve worked alongside some great coaches over the years and the teachers who have been supporting MoneySense Mondays are real stars.
