They started this game very strongly and put Helensburgh under considerable pressure from the kick-off, but the visitors were first to score with a converted try against the run if play.

Lenzie maintained their pressure and eventually scored through Letford after many attempts by the forwards to cross the whitewash.

Helensburgh held on well and managed another score just before the break to lead 12-7.

But Lenzie controlled the second period to score further tries by Brett, Scouller, and youngsters Arnott, MacKay and Brodie.

Best for Lenzie were Scouller, Slade, MacKenzie, McCrae and Arnott with Martin Williams voted by man of the match.

This was an important bonus point win for Lenzie as they have a series of difficult away game to navigate starting next week at leaders Glasgow Accies.

Meanwhile Allan Glen’s gave a good account of themselves despite going down 36-7 to unbeaten Accies last Saturday.

The league leaders were ahead after five minutes, Wilson running in to score after a good handling move by the backs. Rhodes converted.

Glen’s manufactured a couple of opportunities to level the score but poor handling let them down.

Although the teams seemed reasonably matched Accies’ slick handling, pace and the excellent strategic kicking of Rhodes allowed them to run in another three tries before half-time by Walker, Clark and Wilson, two of which Rhodes converted for a 26-0 lead.

But after the break the Bishopbriggs side matched the home side in all respects, especially with a stubborn defence thwarting many attempts to cross the visitors’ line.

They did eventually break through with a Gray try, conmverted by Rhodes, and a further penalty.

With ten minutes to go Glen’s had a spell of sustained pressure culminating in Thomson dashing over for a consolation try and converting himself.

This Saturday Glen’s are at home to Kilmarnock, kick-off 2pm.
