Young Lenzie fans link up online with Scottish Rugby heroes

The stunt was part of the Specsavers ‘Something to Smile About’ campaign which aims to celebrate the positivity and joy that a simple smile can bring.

The rugby mad fans from Lenzie Meadow Primary School got the chance to meet their sporting heroes and talk all things rugby - from how to prepare for a big game and control your nerves, to their toughest opponents on the pitch.

Scott Steele cited Manu Tuilagi as the toughest player he has played against and provided some sage advice on how the youngsters could make it as professional rugby players.

The also discovered that Scotland’s tighthead prop Zander Fagerson’s love for mountain biking had to be curtailed due to playing professional rugby.

The Zoom call ended with Zander Fagerson wishing the young fans all the best and hoping that they can be back in the stadium soon.

Speaking about the campaign with Scottish Rugby Specsavers’ Scottish chair, Susanne Akil, said: ‘We are delighted to be able to celebrate this partnership and put a smile on some young rugby fans’ faces by giving them a rare opportunity to speak to their sporting heroes.

“We also know how important it is to look after your sight and hearing when it comes to professional sport, so we are honoured to bring our expertise to the Scottish Rugby.”
