Ryan Finnie picked for International Children's Games in Bahrain

HIGHLY regarded Law footballer Ryan Finnie (15) is over the moon after being picked in Lanarkshire's 20-strong team of young athletes for this year's International Children's Games in Manama, Bahrain, from June 28 to July 3.

Hamilton Accies youth player Ryan and his team-mates in other sports, competing in athletics, football, sailing and taekwon-do events, will hope to surpass Team Lanarkshire's medal haul of one gold, two silver and four bronze from last year's Games in Athens.

Ryan said: "Being selected to take part in the Games is brilliant; it's a great opportunity.

"I was surprised to be picked for the team and will be nervous when I get over there, but it will be a great confidence booster and should develop my game.

"I'm a centre forward at Accies and would love to turn professional so this will be a great experience."

Ryan's Carluke High guidance teacher Marjory McCormack said: "The school is absolutely delighted that Ryan has been picked. It is really good for him.

"He is a very nice lad who is really sporty and keen to take on a career in football."
