Scots find it tough going in Italy

Scotland’s under 18 hockey sides found the going tough in their respective European competitions.

The under 18 men went down 4-1 to Austria and the under 18 women lost their opening pool encounter against Belgium 3-0.

For Scotland u18 men — which includes Clydesdale stars Aidan Black, Gregor Hirst, Peter Baldwin, Scott Lindsay and Stewart Coghlan — it was their second pool match in the u18 Nations Championships in Cernusco, Italy.

Next up is Ukraine, who Scotland have to beat to secure a semi-final spot and retain a dream of promotion.

In their opening match, Scotland started their bid for promotion with a convincing 3-0 win over hosts Italy.

Meanwhile, in the opening game in Utrecht, Scotland`s u18 women went down 3-0 to a well drilled Belgian side. The side features former Hutchesons’ Grammar school trio Kirsten McIntosh, Heather Lang and Lucy Lanigan, as well as Craigholme duo Heather Howie and Bethan Mann.
