Scottish title win for Mauy Thai boxer

Mescho Dunko is now the Scottish Professional Mauy Thai Federation (SPMTF) Scottish Super Welterweight (68kg) title holder.

The 35-year-old, from Bishopbriggs, won the belt following a technical knockout in the second round of a fight against Michael Roach in Grangemouth recently.

He now holds one of three belts available for his weight in Scotland and he hopes to finish off his fighting career with the full set.

He said: “It was a technical knockout in the second round. I stopped him with a high kick to the head which split his eye open.

“I am happy to have won the fight – as would anyone who competes at this level.

“There are still a couple of other belts to go for and I want to compete for them before I retire at the end of the year.”

Mescho has mastered a number of martial arts over the years and is helping others learn the sport to at his Kirkintilloch-based gym, M-Mag.

He also recently fought Aberdeen’s Jamie McCrae in a prestige fight in Clydebank’s Playdrome.

Mescho won on points by a unanimous decision after five three-minute rounds – gaining revenge over his opponent who beat him the first time they fought.

The pair, however, became close friends after their first meeting.

Mescho explained: “I fought him two years back when he beat me and ever since we have stayed in contact and become friends.

“It seems crazy that two people would get in a ring and try to batter the living daylights out of each other and then be the best of friends after, but that is normal in Mauy Thai.

“I have made many good friends through people I have fought.”
