Sheikh made captain

CLYDESDALE'S Qasim Sheikh has been appointed captain of Western Warriors, one of three teams in Cricket Scotland's new regional series which starts this weekend.

But the Warriors have to wait until April 25 before they play their first game, against the Eastern Knights at Myreside.

Designed to bridge the gap between club and country, the series of representative matches will create a platform for aspiring international players to stake their claim for selection.

Teams will be drawn from selected squads of 16 players from each region, playing each other once at the start of the season, and again in September to inform selection for Scotland's winter training squads.

Another four Clydesdale players are included in the Western Warriors squad -- Zeeshan Bashir, Kasim Farid, Majid Haq and Omer Hussain -- and their second match will be played at their home ground of Titwood on May 3.
