Six of the best for United

CUMBERNAULD United boss John Queen says he's not getting carried away even after watching his team put six past Annbank United.

Queen altered his tactics for the game with a view to working the ball into the box more quickly to provide more of a cutting edge.

He said: "We set up looking to keep a clean sheet because we've been losing a lot of goals recently. I told the players we didn't want to do away with the passing style we usually play, just amend it a bit.

Looking to work the ball out wide and get crosses into the box more quickly. We kept the tempo high.

"The players seemed to buy into it as well and I told them if they went a couple up I didn't want them to take their foot off the pedal."

Queen believes the team are beginning to adjust to the Super League first division's more clinical style of play.

He continued: "In this league you can keep the ball off a team for 10 or 15 minutes and then they get it back and play a long ball into the box and go a goal up. Last year teams didn't hunt the ball as much either so it's been a learning experience.

"The players are realising that it isn't like it was last year where, when you go on a run of so many games unbeaten, teams come and are a bit afraid of you."

The Guy's Meadow club have a break this weekend, before a long journey north to Aberdeen on October 2 to face Stoneywood in the Scottish Junior Cup.

Queen added: "To be honest I don't know too much about them. A couple of our players have come across them and we'll try to use that to our advantage. It'll be a test – not just from a footballing perspective but you've also got the long trip up there before the game so we'll need to make sure the players stay focussed."
