Six of the best from Dale

DUNDEE aces Grove Menzieshill (writes Mike Stanger) are one game away from their sixth successive Subway national league title, but Titwood-based Milne Craig Clydesdale Western are still in the chase after a 6-0 win over Glynhill Kelburne at Titwood on Saturday.

The home side went ahead when Holly Cram pounced on a rebound from a shot by Helen Walker. Then Nicki Crastin finished off a Catriona Ralph penalty corner routine at the post. And a third goal came from a deflection by Nicola Pitticas before half-time.

The goals kept coming after the interval: Susan McGilivray with a reverse-stick shot, Pitticas again and finally Cram with a shot that went in off a defender to complete the scoring for the principal league title contenders.

Meanwhile, the faltering southside challenge from third-placed Giffnock finally petered out when they lost 2-1 to CALA Edinburgh. Olympian Rhona Simpson scored for the East Renfrewshire side.

In the men’s national league, Menzieshill lost 2-1 to Greaves Clydesdale at Titwood. Ciaran Crawford opened for the home side with a fierce shot from the top of the circle, though the visitors immediately pulled the scores level.

The winning goal came from the ever-reliable Raymond Wrightson with only two minutes remaining.
