Snow go for football card

AS the coldest December weather since 1981 stretches into January, Scotland's football fixture card looks set to be decimated again this weekend.

Clyde boss John McCormack is fed up with the wintry weather.

He told the Bully Wee's website – www.clydefc.co.uk : "It has been a frustrating time and to be honest I just want the snow to go away so we can get on with the business, get the second half of the season started and get climbing up this league.

"The venue for training has changed but fortunately we have not missed a single session. We have been using Soccerworld in Glasgow and have been using those facilities alongside several other clubs, including some from the SPL and the First Division, so the players have seen that the club is backing them.

"In some ways the break has been good as the players enjoyed a few days off at Christmas and it has allowed the new guys time to get to know their team mates but it is vital that we keep match fit and ready for the challenges ahead.

"Without doubt I feel that it is an exciting time for the club as we search to add to the squad. I've put it to the players that the new guys coming in are here to help us all out. It will give us real competition for places and assist the young boys who at times have needed to be rested rather than played week in week out.

The Broadwood outfit are due to take a trip north-east this weekend to face Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium, but with more wintry conditions forecast for later in the week, this fixture also looks to be in doubt.

The junior football scene also looks set to be hit by the recent snow and ice.

Following their seasonal break, both Cumbernauld United and Kilsyth Rangers are due to be back in league action this weekend.

United, who are at present sitting in second place of the Stagecoach West of Scotland League Central District First Division, only two points behind leaders St. Anthony's and with two games in hand, are scheduled to play host to Vale of Leven. Kick-off at Guy's Meadow is planned for 1.45 p.m.

Shotts Bon Accord sit in third spot having played 11 games with 23 points gained. So a real exciting second half to the season lies ahead.

Kick-off is also planned for 1.45 p.m.
