Fish angles his way through to deny Tigers duo Lawson and Summers in Premier Pairs semi

The Monarchs hero dived under Richard Lawson on the final bends of the second semi-final, after both Scottish clubs had qualified from their respective groups.

Lawson’s partner Aaron Summers had cleared off in front ahead of Sam Masters, who then held up the race to allow his team-mate to challenge the Glasgow man.

And ‘The Fish’ finally got there, passing Lawson on bends three and four of the fourth lap - and sending Edinburgh through to meet Somerset in the final.

Summers said: “I made a few changes for the semi and it worked for me. I managed to get past Sam and Rich was there at points. When I looked around on the last lap a couple of times, he was in third, and I thought that we had it. It was just as we crossed the line that he got him.

“Somerset did well all night and it was the same with Edinburgh. Sam used to ride there and he’s going so well at the minute. I was quite pleased to get in front of him in the semi-final, but it is hard and once you make one little mistake, that’s it. But Sam did slow it down a bit as well, which didn’t help.”
