Stars line up for Carstairs charity football match

A STRING of Scottish football legends are to take part in a charity match against a Carstairs select side.

Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist and former Celtic captain Neil Lennon are just two of the big names that could be on the Dukla Pumpherston teamsheet, to play the Carstairs Church team on May 2.

Scottish football pundit Chick Young and socialist politician Tommy Sheridan are the brains behind Dukla and were only too happy to bring their celebrity chums along to face Carstairs.

The match has been organised by Carstairs Church minister Rev Alan Gibson.

He said: "I was looking to organise a game which would capture local people's imagination.

"When I approached Chick and Tommy I was surprised at how quickly they were able to come back to me and say they would do it."

Former Motherwell stars Dougie Arnott and Brian Martin are also expected to play, as is current Scotland under-21 boss Billy Stark.

All the money raised from the match will be used for youth and elderly residents projects in Carstairs and Carstairs Junction.

The Carstairs Church team face Dukla Pumpherston on May 2 at Carnwath football ground in Biggar Road. Kick-off is at 2pm.
