Taekwon-do success runs in the family

BRAVE Forth mum Helene Hewitt broke her right hand when smashing in half a one-inch thick block of plastic to win the destruction event at a top taekwon-do competition in Stratford.

And this determination in adversity is obviously rubbing off on her sons Blair (8) and five-year-old Jamie, for both boys have also won numerous recent taekwon-do titles.

Helene (39), of Skylaw Terrace, said: “It takes guts to do the destruction event.

“The first time I’d ever tried smashing the block in half was at Stratford!

“I’d never even practised it before so I was very nervous.

“Ten other women were in the competition but none of them managed to smash a block.

“I was delighted yet shocked to receive the trophy for winning.”
