Taking on the challenge

GIFFNOCK NORTH AAC claimed more than their fair share of medals at the annual Renfrewshire Cross Country Championships.

The southsiders delivered prize winning performances in every junior age group, along with a fine bronze individual medal from senior Greg Turner, who had won silver in the Ayrshire championships the day before.

Giffnock’s Under 17 girls swept to a coveted one, two, three from Nicole Scott, Rebecca Saxby and Rachel Saxon over three miles. Erin Wallac powered away to U15 gold and led her colleagues to the team crown.

The U15 boys Michael Lowrie (3rd), Joseph Lowrie (5th) and Oliver Watson-Sweeney (7th) claimed their own team crown.

In the U13s two mile race, Giffnock’s girls struck silver behind Inverclyde AC, while Jack Bell stormed to an excellent third, to lead the boys U13 to team bronze.

The Under 11 girls won gold while the boys earned silver medals, losing to Greenock Glenpark.
