Bowler Gavin Ansari has suffered his third defeat in four matches at the World Cup in Australia.

Ansari, who lives in Lenzie and bowls for Lenzie Bowling Club outdoors and Cumbernauld Indoor Bowling Club indoors, lost 15-4 19-4 to Fiji’s Samuela Tuikiligana at Warilla in New South Wales.

The 27-year-old lost his opening two pool matches to Hong Kong’s Kevin Fung and Australian Jeremy Henry, the tournament favourite.

However he then bounced back to beat Canada’s Vincent Mai in his third match.

But his defeat to Tuikiligana - the Fijian’s first win of the competition - means he can barely afford any more slip-ups if he is to have a chance of making the semi-finals.

There are 10 players in Ansari’s pool, each playing each other once with the pool winner going directly into the semis and the second and third-placed players going into a play-off competition with bowlers from the competition’s other pool.
