Thrilling draw for 'Well at Dundee

Cadden struck home with his left foot after brilliant work on the left by Marvin Johnson.

But – as snow continued to fall – Dundee levelled within two minutes when Paul McGowan took advantage of poor Motherwell defending to shoot into the net after a looping Greg Stewart pass.

The breathless start to this enthralling Scottish Premiership encounter continued as play raged from end to end in thrilling fashion.

Motherwell nearly went 2-1 up on seven minutes when Keith Lasley’s speculative 40-yard free-kick was turned round the right post by diving Dundee keeper Scott Bain.

Within three minutes at the other end, Dundee somehow failed to net their second when Rory Loy’s shot hit the underside of the bar after Stewart had skinned Stevie Hammell on the right.

The sensational action continued as Stewart’s brilliant run and shot brought the best out of ’Well keeper Connor Ripley who tipped the ball over.

There was another glorious chance which saw ’Well’s Scott McDonald volley straight at Bain after Josh Law had headed the ball into his path.

Kane Hemmings shot straight at Ripley before Motherwell broke to the other end to take the lead in wonderful fashion when Stephen Pearson strode through and slotted home a fine individual effort.

McGowan volleyed straight at Ripley when clean through, before the ’Well goalie produced a brilliant stop from Kevin Holt’s long ranger.

The Steelmen’s Louis Moult had a flicked effort saved following a corner, with the final chance of a pulsating first half seeing Hemmings’ effort go wide at the other end.

Dundee skipper Gary Harkins shot over on 56 minutes, before ’Well had a ‘goal’ ruled offside 15 minutes later when Moult netted a Pearson cross from the left but from an offside position.

The visitors’ lead looked comfortable until referee John Beaton enraged the away contingent by awarding a soft penalty for Chris Cadden’s high challenge on Holt after an initial corner had been cleared. It appeared there had been no contact between the players.

Hemmings scored comfortably from 12 yards to make it 2-2, with ’Well almost going back ahead through a long range Law free-kick and Moult’s header from a corner.

Ripley then saved an injury time shot from Dundee sub Arturo Juan Perez-Reverte.
