A CAROLSIDE primary school duo are set to take the table tennis world by storm.

On Sunday Jennie Yang and Wiktoria Smolarek earned their place in the 2014 primary schools’ international championship following their performance in the Scottish qualifiers.

The pair made it into the last four at the Scottish primary schools championship event, earning their place at Jersey next year.

They managed to claim the doubles title for the second year running.

In the girl’s singles event, seeded second, Jennie matched her seeding in the final placing.

Although Wiktoria lost to the top seeded girls, including Jennie, she won other matches including a closely contested one against Tessa Yau.

In doubles, Jennie and Wiktoria beat Hannah and Amelia Norbury by 3:0 in the final.

Next year Wiktoria will represent Scotland for the first time while it will be Jennie’s fourth outing.

Jennie told ExtraSport: “It is a great achievement for both of us, we have been working and practicing together for a long time.”

In recent weeks, fellow Carolside primary pupil Michael Zhang made his way to the finals of the under 11s at the North Ayrshire open last weekend, where Jennie won the under 13 title and came second for the under 15 girls.
