Treat served up for tennis aces at awards night

Lenzie Aces player of the year Billy Crane receives his award from project co-ordinator Allwyn Crawford and Mike Cohen (Tennis Scotland).

The event took place at the Golden Pheasant, Auchinloch, where each of the 28 adults on the programme - established to provide tennis lessons to people with a disability - was awarded a silver salver.

The salvers were engraved ‘The Sasha MacNab Memorial Achievement Award, in memory of one of the project’s younger players who sadly passed away in January this year.

Volunteers were also recognised for their support and project co-ordinator Allwyn Crawford thanked all her team personally for their support in helping to get the project off the ground.

Speeches were made on the night from two of the players to show their appreciation.

The Player of the Year prize, for his progress on court this year, was awarded to Billy Crane who received his award from Allwyn and Mike Cohen of Tennis Scotland. The Junior Aces Player of the Year went to Liam Flanagan.

The aim of the project is to reach out to adults aged 16 and over with a learning disability living in East Dunbartonshire and encourage them to participate in a sport, access local community facilities and develop a healthier lifestyle by taking part in a fun, social activity.
