Trio enter Clydesdale Sport Hall of Fame

THE packed audience at Friday night’s Clydesdale Sports Personality of the Year Awards toasted three new names in the Clydesdale Sport Hall of Fame.

Douglas Water natives Andrew Davidson (former Hull City FC captain), the late Jimmy Davidson (ex-Partick Thistle FC player) and Douglas Baillie (ex-Rangers FC player and Sunday Post football journalist) were all inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Andrew’s son Neil said: “It is a great honour for me to receive this on behalf of my dad who is now 80 and battling Alzheimer’s.

“He was a tremendous competitor on the field. Football was his life.”

Neil said that ex-Manchester City legend Mike Summerbee had often joked about “the bloke at Hull called Davidson who used to kick me around for 90 minutes”!

Partick Thistle historian Robert Reid revealed that Jimmy was the team’s third most capped player ever.

And Douglas said: “I’m totally amazed to get this award because I’ve never won anything serious in my life.”
