Tryst Handball Club minis given a boost

TRYST 77 Handball Club mini section were given a boost when local company Jim Jack Services agreed to sponsor the team and provide funding towards, amongst other things, mini goals, handballs, coach education and competition costs.

The club will use the money to develop their mini section and encourage as many kids and young people as possible to experience this fantastic Olympic sport.

Mini handball is aimed at primary school children – P5-P7 girls and boys – and not only introduces them to the sport of handball but also helps develop the core skills of running, jumping, throwing and hand/eye co-ordination. The sessions also encourage team work and spacial awareness.

Current Great Britain womens captain Lynn McCafferty started out playing mini handball at the club and although at this stage Tryst are simply looking to increase awareness and participation of the sport, the opportunity is there for players to progress as far as they can.

The current mini team were recently in match action, taking part in a Scottish Handball Association, Scottish Cup event in East Kilbride. They played five matches in total, winning three and losing two, and have progressed to the next stage of the competition to be held at the end of April.

The team were given a further boost when the sponsorship money from Jim Jack Services was matched through the sportscotland sportsmatch scheme. This has allowed the club to provide additional sessions, reach more children, purchase equipment and hopefully offer fun and enjoyable handball coaching in an exciting sport that also helps improve fitness along the way.

With the support of the funding the club have started to introduce super minis, with P3-P4 bringing their own particular energy and enthusiasm to the sessions.
